Gulfwind Sailing Academy is New Zealand’s premier sailing academy and offers personalised, practical and hands on Royal Yachting Association (RYA) courses and certified Yachting NZ courses in both sail and motor cruising in the world renowned waters surrounding Auckland, "City of Sails".
The 'RYA 2006 School of the Year Award' ,sponsored by the Royal Yachting Association, was presented to the Auckland based RYA Gulfwind Sailing Academy Training Centre, in recognition of their dedication and delivery of internationally recognised RYA sailing and motor cruising courses.
Our quality range of courses and charters means you choose how much you want to learn. You can lie back and relax during a leisurely sail around Auckland's Waitemata Harbour or Hauraki Gulf, or try your hand at various sailing techniques in our introduction to sail and club race sessions.
Or, immerse yourself in a comprehensive Royal Yachting Association (RYA) or Yachting New Zealand course. You'll be in the hands of expert owner/operator RYA Yachtmaster instructors who can tailor their charters and courses to suit you. Mike, Sheryl and Chad have a life time experience in boats and have extensive local knowledge of their sailing waters.
We operate a modern Bruce Farr 1020 (34’) yacht. She is in excellent condition, responsive to sail with tiller steering and comfortable to sail on. We are based at Westhaven Marina which is by the Auckland Harbour Bridge and very close to the CBD. They can arrange accommodation and transport to / from the marina. They take care of every detail that you would ever need to go sailing in New Zealand. Our RYA Motor Cruising courses are held in a suitable 30’ to 35’ launch. Chad Thomson is Gulfwind’s specialist instructor in motor cruising courses.
The full range of courses from Start Yachting / Learn to sail and Helmsman’s Motor Cruising to Yachtmaster (sail and power) are run through out the year and over the busy summer period (October to April) you need to make a booking on the website www.gulfwind.co.nz
