Bareboat Yacht Charter
Bareboat charters are among the most popular forms of yacht charter. When you bareboat,
you sail the boat yourself and are entirely responsible for handling the yacht. All of the
challenges and all of the rewards are yours.
There are many types of different bareboat charters varying from a truly "naked" sailing yacht
rented from a private boat owner, to an "all inclusive, complete yachting resort". The "all inclusive"-type
of sailing charter is a package where you arrive the day before and spend the night in a pleasant hotel.
Briefing takes place the next morning and you are off for a week or so of sailing on a clean, fully provisioned
boat with a minimum of fuss. The hotel room is waiting when you return.
At least two persons of the crew need to have experience of the sea and a yacht close to the size you intend to charter.
Most charter companies will require you to provide your sailing résumé, before they confirm a bareboat charter.
For many former yacht owners, bareboating has become an alternative to owning the boat. As one experienced bareboat sailor noted,
"Bareboat chartering is like being a grandparent: you get the pleasures when you want them, but with none of the responsibilities!"
