Hi, I am a single handed female sailor sailing my own boat - a 26ft catamaran and am on route from England to hopefully get to Australia - I am currently in Spain - on my boat and am wondering on the eventual best route to get me and my boat safely to Australia.
I believe that the Red Sea would be a mite dangerous for me - friends of mine were machine gunned travelling via the Red Sea even though they were travelling in a convey of a few vessels.
The Panama Canal - have the rules changed about the minimum speed requirements? My boat has a 9.9 hp outboard and cannot go faster than 5 knots - I am also worried about taking on strange boat handlers!
Africa - trouble and strife all along the coast or am I wrong?
Can anyone help with advice? Male or Female! Are there any other single handed female sailors out there? I would love to hear from you especially if you are cruising like me.

Hi Sassy, That’s a long way you are sailing single-handed! I would suggest that you go to one of the specialized forums for world cruising, for example www.cruiserlog.com. There you will find other sailors with experience of a trip like yours.
It would be very interesting to here more of your sailing. Do you have a blog or a webpage anywhere? If not, it would be great if you could write about your experiences here.
God luck with your trip! I think there is quite a few of the readers here that dream of doing something like this. Regards, Guy

Thanks for your reply Guy, I haven't got a blog up and running yet but I will get one done soon - so much has happened since I started out - it is a very interesting life! It took me 5 days to cross the Bay of Biscay in October 2007 with a little outboard engine and NO WIND!! Yes,October and not a scrap of wind! I had to drift for a couple of days and I had jelly fish swimming faster than me! A couple of whales kept me company for the days when I was drifting I think they thought my boat was a stranded whale! I caught an a giant octopus yesterday in my lobster pot I did not have a clue on what to do with it but as I want to live as much off the sea as I can I had a go and had fried octopus and garlic and onions for supper!
I will start my blog soon and post the address here for anyone interested.
In the meantime I would really like to hear from anyone who would like to do what I am doing or are doing it!
Sassy P.S. I trained a fish to follow my hull cleaning brush - see the picture!
