Me and my wife and our two kids age 12 and 14 are planning to do a bareboat charter in Greece next spring. We have been sailing in Sweden for many years with our own 37’ sailboat, but have no experience of chartering or sailing in Mediterranean. I am looking for all sort of advice.

Hi Doc, Here is my personal advice: Choose a reputable, established charter company Head for the Cyclades or Dodecanese. In springtime the Ionian Islands can be cold with some rain. The Sporades are better in the summer. Saronic Gulf is OK but not so interesting. In my opinion, the Cyclades are easiest to sail. A good way is to choose a one way charter starting at one charter base and ending in another. This will give you a longer range and more comfortable than a windward beat. The prevailing winds are often from north-west or north-east. I also recommend getting the book “Greek Waters Pilot” by Rod Heikell. You will have a great trip! Best wishes, Ian

My wife and I headed for the Ionian area in late May. I would appreciate any advice on towns and anchorages of interest.
