We are thinking of a sailing charter in Croatia. Could you give any advice on a good place to start a charter in Croatia? Advice on sailing itinerary is also welcome.
Thanks
Kim

I have been sailing in Croatia at least seven times the last 15 years. The Croatian coast is absolutely beautiful and so are the people. Here is some advice from me.

July and August is very crowded and winds are very low. To get a good spot for the night you must arrive early and forget secluded coves. May or June is better, but the water is to cold to swim. I think September is the best, only the days become shorter. October can be great if the weather is still good.

Most of the times people either cruise the north - Pula to Sibenik area - or the south - Split to Dubrovnik. North area is less busy and wilder - so you tend to get more charter availability and deals up there.

South there are lots of coves and nice towns to berth in at.

Prevailing wind is north-west, so one ways are better north-south. You get more deals on south to north charters. A bus ride is not expensive and as an example Split to Dubrovnik is 4.5 hours.

Good luck with your charter!

Sunday. Hail Croatia and welcome aboard! The stunning walled city of Dubrovnik is a true treasure. The cobbled old city streets resemble a jumble of tangled shoelaces filled with cute cafes, restaurants, ice cream parlours, souvenirs and curios. The compact city is full of colour and life and many a while can be spent watching the local traders go about their day.

Your boat will be ready for embarkation/check in at the DUBROVNIK (GRUZ) HARBOUR FROM 13:00 ONWARD. Overnight - Dubrovnik Harbour (D)
Two boats anchored where the Turquoise coast meets the sandy beach
Days 2 - 3: Korcula and Hvar
Dubrovnik – Korcula – Hvar. As our boat sets sail, the coming week will be filled with island hopping, swimming, sunbathing and relaxing with like minded travellers. In addition to a beautiful views from on deck, you’ll enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast and lunch and visit a range of different ports each day. As the sun sets, the world is your oyster; explore the day’s port of call and discover a local restaurant or bistro and sample Croatia’s incredible gastronomy and fine wines.

Stopping at the islands of Hvar and Korcula, both are among some of the most important wine growing regions in Croatia. Korcula, an island renowned for its long maritime history and is the reputed birthplace of the great explorer Marco Polo. It is possible to climb the tower, which was said to be his home. It is also one of the most charming and romantic of the 1000 or so islands off the Adriatic coast. Ancient medieval walls surround hidden treasures; you will find architectural delights, including Renaissance palaces, cathedrals, museums and plenty more gems tucked away in its network of old cobbled streets. On day 3, sail to the little island of Scedro for a dip, before continuing to the sunshine island of Hvar. The city of Hvar offers plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars, open long into the night! Overnight - onboard (B:2, L:2)

Days 4 - 5: Trstenik & Mljet
Hvar – Trstenik – Mljet. Setting sail we cruise to the little town of Trstenik on Peljesac Peninsula. Viniculture is popular here and the famous Dingac wine is worth a taste. On day 5, sail to the verdant green island of Mljet, where you can opt for a dip in one of the crystal clear inland lakes or visit the small 12th century Benedictine monastery. A little over half the island is devoted as National Park offering pleasant scenery and is easily navigated by bicycles and motorized scooters, all available for hire by the harbour front. At dinner time try one of the seafood restaurants along the waterfront or any one of the tiny local village kavarnas (taverns) throughout the island. Overnight - onboard (B:2, L:2)
Day 6: Sipan Island
Mljet – Sipan Island. Cruising to the Elafiti Islands, the anchor will be dropped at one of the smaller islands, offering the opportunity to swim and snorkel in azure blue waters. Sipan, the biggest island, is our choice of port tonight. Overnight - onboard (B, L)
Day 7: Dubrovnik
Sipan Island – Dubrovnik. We cruise south along the coast back to Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic. Arriving into Dubrovnik early this morning, the day is free for you to further explore the impressive old city or take one final dip in the sea. Overnight - onboard (B, D)
Day 8: Dubrovnik
Sunday. Dubrovnik. Our week of sun and sailing concludes after breakfast. (B)
What's onboard a Classic boat?

Travelling on a sometimes masted, rigged wooden sailing boat (with onboard motor power) with a range of facilities including dining area and plenty of deck space to enjoy the spectacular views and sea breeze, you'll be in the company of like-minded travellers.
